The powder metallurgy sector is constantly undergoing technological development, and at ceramitec the innovations this produces—which are more than capable of keeping pace with competitor technologies—can be experienced at first hand.
Today, powder metallurgy products are an intrinsic part of a number of technical sectors. Over the past few decades, PM parts have become prevalent in the automotive, aviation and aerospace, machining, medical technology, and electronics industries thanks to the high levels of economy and functional flexibility they have to offer. PM products can be primarily characterized by their economy and their performance. Experience gained from countless components shows that powder metallurgical processes can deliver savings of up to and even over 70 percent in machining and production compared to conventionally manufactured tools.
At every ceramitec event, all of the providers of the mechanical and thermal processes required for powder metallurgy will be represented. They showcase their innovations, such as yet further enhanced manufacturing processes using optimized materials.
Innovative solutions in powder metallurgy at ceramitec 2018
The topic of mobility, in particular, is closely related with powder metallurgy because the automotive industry is the most important customer industry for powder metallurgy components. In turn, one of the focuses in the automotive sector is on electric mobility, which entails new challenges.
If one casts a glance at the procedural aspect, there is a focus on increased sintering temperatures. In this context, the industrial furnace construction sector will present optimized concepts at ceramitec 2018.
In the area of forming technologies, pressing, extruding, powder injection molding and additive manufacturing (AM) are being continuously refined. Additive manufacturing is paving the way for further fields of application of PM components—for example in medicine and aircraft construction. In this context, the focus in aircraft construction is on components for high temperature applications, which must simultaneously meet the requirements of lightweight construction.
To be able to cope with applications placing high demands on the required strengths, the hot isostatic pressing (HIP) procedure is indispensable for subsequent densification, particularly with components produced by additive manufacturing.
The topic of Industry 4.0 will be mapped on the basis of ceramitec 2018, because it is especially driven by the automotive industry.
